Authenticity means skin health

A counterfeit cosmetic may look like the original, but its unknown ingredients can harm your skin. That is why buying original in this category matters twice as much.

Check the signs of authenticity

A manufacturing and expiry date, a batch code on the package, an authenticity hologram and official registration are among the key markers. Tidy packaging and quality printing also indicate a genuine item.

The batch code on the box should match the one on the container itself — the simplest check, and it takes seconds. Pay attention to smell and texture as well: a sharp alcoholic odour, an unusual consistency or separated layers are clear signs of a fake formula.

Expiry dates and the period-after-opening symbol

Most products carry a small icon of an open jar with a number such as 6M or 12M. That number tells you how many months the product stays usable after it is opened — a limit that works independently of the expiry date on the box.

It is a good habit to write the opening date on the container with a marker. Mascara and eye products have the shortest life and are best replaced every three to six months, even if they are not finished.

Choose for your skin type

Before buying, consider your skin type — dry, oily or sensitive — and choose a product made for it. A genuine but unsuitable product will not give the result you want.

Storing cosmetics properly

Heat, humidity and direct light are the enemies of cosmetic formulas. A steamy bathroom is the worst possible storage spot; choose a cool, dry drawer or shelf instead, and always close lids fully.

Wash brushes and sponges every one or two weeks with a mild shampoo and lay them flat to dry. Clean tools matter to your skin just as much as a genuine product does.
